8 August Technopole

The two African skimmers remain at Technopole, here in flight against the backdrop of Pikine. A piapiac, West Africa’s  black magpie, flew over calling. I was surprised to find it was new to the site and so species 184.

Wader numbers continue to build up slowly, with the first counts of more than one for greenshank and common sandpiper today.

Over Baie de Ngor, an evening flight south of about 50 whimbrel on 6th was my first observation of the large autumn movement of this species along the coast  at Dakar observed last year, most birds  not stopping, though one and a common sandpiper were on my boulder-strewn beach at Virage.
