End of 2011 at Mbodiene, La Petite Cote
My year closed at the southern end of La Petite Cote Important Bird Area. The uninhabited 10km peninsula between the villages of Ponto and Mbodiene is perhaps the most picturesque of La Petite Côte. With lagoons on one side, the Atlantic on the other and nearby irrigation reservoirs, market gardening and a replanted Forêt Classée is has an abundant and varied bird life that will be revisited in more detail in January. Here are merely photos of three species.
Bonne et hereuse année.
Woodchat shrike adult female.
Tree pipit. one of many feeding on the bare soil.
Audouin’s gull. A first winter bird with a Spanish ring, on the beach at the mouth of the tidal inlet, which attracted many terns and gulls.
